The Alberta Government's interest in attracting more technology startup companies to the province could be beneficial for Cochrane.

Yesterday, the government announced a working group has been established to provide advice on how to incentivize private capital investment in the province’s tech and innovation ecosystems.

With the ground to be broken here on an innovation centre next year, Cochrane would be a perfect place for these companies to land.

Mayor Jeff Genung sees this as a positive move by the province.

"We've been touted technology here in Cochrane and being a hub with Garmin, 4iiii, mcThings and the other tech companies that we have already and a high concentration of jobs per capita in the tech industry, it's good news that the provincial government sees fit to throw some funding at technology."

The seven-member committee has a $50,000  budget and is expected to provide the government a final report by February 28, 2020.
