The Jack Tennant Memorial Bridge has been open a little over two months, and already it has been defaced by vandals.

Recently, one of its two piers has been plastered with trashy and senseless graffiti. While not visible to those driving across the bridge, it is to the many using the off-leash dog park and town trail system.

Mayor Jeff Genung expressed disappointment in hearing the news this morning.

"It's unfortunate, it's sad. Not to make light of it, I don't know of a bridge that doesn't have some kind of graffiti on it, but it's disappointing news and it's just senseless."

Genung says the town is working to get it cleaned up as soon as possible.

He says they will take every precaution possible and attempt to find the culprits but suspects it will be difficult to do so.

Frank Borsos, town manager of municipal enforcement, says graffiti is a criminal offence, and should any suspects be apprehended charges could be laid by the RCMP.

It comes during a week when the town released a two-minute video on the bridge's construction. The bridge's two piers are also being lit in a rotation of red, white, green, and blue light, visible after daylight, in the spirit of the season.
