A Burnswest Properties official says the company is on the verge of finalizing a deal to bring a major grocery store to the new Greystone development.

Josh Hagen, vice-president of development at Burnswest Properties Ltd., told Cochrane town council they are within days of securing an unnamed grocer to anchor the commercial area that will be developed close to the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Recreation Centre.

"We can't quite formally acknowledge who the purchaser is, we're a couple of days away from waving final conditions, but we're very confident the sales going through."

On Mar. 28, council gave final approval to a land-use amendment to rezone a 2.43 hectare (six acre) parcel as general commercial in Greystone.

Hagen called it the first big step in developing Greystone's 300 acres.

He says they are expecting to have the stormwater pond, currently underway, completed by the late summer, early fall, as well as the pathway, landscaping, and paving in the immediate area.

Greystone will be seeking approval for two other parcels within the development in late April.

One is immediately west of the approved C-G parcel and will accommodate a future hotel as well as some multi-family housing.

The second is on the west side of Greystone by River Ave. which will include an initial 129 single-family/duplex lots.

Greystone offers a blend of commercial, industry, and residential properties.
