​​​​​​Environment Canada has issued a Heat Warning for Cochrane and the surrounding areas.

Cochrane is forecasted to reach daytime highs between 29 and 35 degrees Celsius this weekend, and according to weather experts we won’t get much relief overnight with lows ranging between 14 to 20 degrees. 

There’s an elevated risk of  weather related ailments such as heatstroke as heat exhaustion, and residents with underlying respiratory conditions may experience more severe outcomes. 

The Heat Warning is in effect for the following areas:

  • Rocky View Co. near Cochrane
  • Mountain View Co. near Carstairs and Stirlingville
  • Mountain View Co. near Cremona and Water Valley
  • Mountain View Co. near Olds and Didsbury
  • Mountain View Co. near Sundre
  • Rocky View Co. near Airdrie and Crossfield
  • Rocky View Co. near Bottrel and Madden

Residents are encouraged to reschedule prolonged outdoor activities and stay well hydrated. 

Residents are also reminded to never leave children or pets in a hot car for any length of time.
