The 39th annual Terry Fox Run held last Sunday (September 15) in Mitford Park is close to breaking a record target.

Lindsay Regier, the Event Organizer for the Cochrane Chapter, says for the past five year's she has hoped to smash a 15,000 goal and this year she is exceptionally close. "We are only $335 and change short of breaking 15,000 dollars so it would be great if we could do that. We did break a record though in Cochrane, and for the first time, we are at $14,664.60. It is pretty amazing. It has really built up over the past few years, and it is great to see Cochrane stand behind the run and always comes out to support it. It's only getting better and better every year."

While this year's run was down slightly in participants, Regier says there was still a good showing of walkers, runners, cyclists, and rollerbladers. "We had about 120 people out altogether. It really does depend on the weather, the year, and what else is going on. But with that many people coming out and raising a fundraising record, is something we are pleased about. All that money now goes towards cancer research which is what we have the run for."

The cool part for Regier is how many of the same faces come out year after year. "I am not even from Cochrane, so getting to know people has been great. People always come up and say hi, or recognize each other, and we have volunteers that have started committing to doing the run every year. I think it just creates that great community feel and it's a nice activity to do on a Sunday while you spend some time with your friends and neighbours."

With fundraising remaining open for a little while, Regier is hopeful the final tally will take us over the 15,000 dollar target.
