Up until September 30, West Valley Chiropractic Centre is taking sock donations for those individuals who are homeless or frequent emergency shelters.

This is the 5th year for the 'Toasty Toes' campaign, a partnership between the Alberta College and Association of Chiropractors (ACAC), Alberta Chiropractors, United Way, and Woods Homes, says Dr. Amanda Tulk with West Valley Chiro. "The reason we do this is clean, and warm socks are the number one requested but least donated item. So a sock drive is done every fall in preparation of the upcoming winter season because there is nothing worse than having cold feet all winter."

With sock donations being slightly down, Tulk is hopeful that raising awareness will help. "It is lower than in previous years, last year we collected 440 pairs. This year, the ACAC has upped their goal, so we decided to up our's to 500 pairs, and right now we are about 130. So we could use some help."

All socks will be graciously accepted, shares Tulk. "No matter what size, no matter what age. They are just divvying them up across women's shelters, homeless shelters, just any population in need through Woods Homes and the United Way. So any size, style, colour, the warmer, the better."

Hoping to reach their goal of 500 pairs, Dr. Tulk says they have added an incentive for those who drop off a pair or two. "We have a sock line with little sock cutouts, and we'll put your name up on the wall as a thank you for donating. As well, for anyone who drops off socks; we have a ballot for every pair of socks you donate your name will be entered to win a one hour massage."

Sock donations will be graciously accepted up to this Monday (September 30) at West Valley Chiropractic Centre located at 8-402 Railway St W.
