Helping Hands' first Community Food Drive of the spring is coming up this Saturday, April 23 and they are looking for some volunteers to help with the drive on that day.

The commitment is from approximately 9:30 am to about 11:30 am. Interested individuals/families/groups can contact April at food@helpinghandscochrane.ca.

Volunteers will be visiting the east-end and central Cochrane areas.

Communities that will be visited will be Riverview, Glenbow, East-end, and Gleneagles

They ask that donations are out on the front porch by 10 a.m. and should be collected by noon.

In order to limit the use of single-use plastics, Helping Hands will not be supplying plastic bags this time. Chairra Nicolle Executive Director of Helping Hands Society of Cochrane & Area says, "We are asking that any donation be made either in a new reusable bag because the food bank can hand that out with their hampers to clients. Or it can be in a recyclable box or a used grocery bag works for us as well or even just on the front porch and then our volunteers can pick them up and put them in bags they will have on hand."

The Activettes Food Bank wishlist includes:

  • 1 litre juice containers
  • 100% juice boxes
  • oatmeal bagged or individual packages
  • canned soup
  • granola bars preferably nut-free
  • dish soap and laundry detergent
