Backcountry enthusiasts are advised to exercise extra caution because of unstable snowpack in the mountain regions.

Banff National Park issued an avalanche update on Friday stating the current danger rating as considerable.

This is because more than 50+ cm of snow fell in the region last week.

The park says the new snow is now sitting on top of weak, faceted layers at the base of the snowpack.

Banff Banff National Park posted this warning to social media

Last month, a tragic incident occurred in Kananaskis Country where an ice climber lost their life in an avalanche. This marked the area's first fatality related to avalanches this season.
