The widely anticipated and long-awaited upgrade to the Highway 1A corridor is finally underway.

Town of Cochrane officials say that crews are in the process of removing topsoil and tree stumps to support the start of construction.

Ironically, while this large undertaking is being done to remedy traffic congestion in town, motorists should expect traffic delays in the area as construction kicks off.

Starting tomorrow, Saturday, July 10, motorists should anticipate traffic delays on the north shoulder of the highway. The town advises that the highway will be reduced to two lanes through the work area until construction wraps up in the late fall.

The Town of Cochrane is asking that motorists follow traffic signs and slow down when passing construction workers.

On June 25 shovels officially hit the ground for the kick-off of the Highway 1A upgrades.
