Hundreds came together Friday, many dressed in orange, to mark the second official National Day for Truth and Reconciliation.

A ceremony was held at the McDougall Stoney Memorial Church along Hwy. 1A, just west of Cochrane.

Lisa Powderface was among the participants of the walk and says she was impressed with the turnout.

"There's a lot more joining us for this walk because last year was our first year and I'm very happy that more are coming and joining us."

"I guess that's where we start our peace and our friendship with other communities."

The event started with a pipe ceremony and prayers, and participants had the opportunity to hear stories from residential school survivors before the 2.8 km walk along Hwy. 1A began.

Powderface says she appreciates people from other cultures coming out to learn and ask questions.

"It makes me feel good because for so long I've wanted them to understand our native culture and how we are too, instead of judging us for how we look. So yes, I really like this peace with all these people coming around and learning our culture too."
