Ice jams and flooding of some sections of the town's pathways near the Bow River is common, and are of no concern at this time.

Fire Inspector Jeff Avery says they are being closely monitored, and it's typical when we experience extremely low temperatures.

"We will continue to monitor any ice jam, and if it ever does hit a dangerous level, we'll let residents know, but there's nothing to worry about at this moment," says Avery.

He says the ice jams typically form where the river elbows during cold weather.

The parks department has temporarily barricaded sections of the pathways that are icy or where flooding has occurred.

Avery says walking on the ice jams or on the river, in general, is extremely dangerous, and people need to stay clear.

He says once the cold weather breaks, the regular river flow will resume.
