Saskatchewan Pulse Growers are keeping producers updated on the latest tariff situation with India, a key market for Canadian pulses.

Yesterday, India's Ministry of Finance published a notification extending its current tariff reduction for lentils imported into India until December 31st, 2020.

According to the release on SPG's website that would mean the 11% tariff applying to lentils imported from all origins except the US still applies, as does the 33% tariff on lentils imported from the U-S.

Pulse Canada is working with the Canadian Government to get clarification on the new amendment and will provide updates once India’s policy is confirmed.

Canada is the world's leading lentil producer and exporter of lentils, with 95 per cent of that production coming from Saskatchewan.
