The Cochrane Legion will have their barbeque fired up tonight as they do every Friday.

Everyone is welcome to stop by from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and enjoy a steak, hamburger, or hotdog with all the fixings which include a baked potato, salad, beans, and garlic toast. All for a reasonable price. The BBQ is run solely by volunteers and all the proceeds go to support the Legion.

The BBQ has always been the main source of income for the Legion and they are thrilled to be able to operate it again after being shuttered by the pandemic. Other fundraising functions that have made a triumphant return include Bingo and meat draws.

Plus, you have a chance to win $10,000 in their online 50/50 fundraiser that ends today (Friday, July 15).

Betty Mazurik with the Legion wants to stress that EVERYONE is welcome. Long gone are the days of having to be a member or related to a veteran to go to the Legion. Mazurik says, "The Legion is open for everybody. You don't have to be a member to come in. You don't have to join. Everybody is welcome into the Legion including children. Also of note, your four-legged friend is invited to the patio.

Legion members would also like the public to know that the Legion is also available to rent for functions too.

Mazurik says, "We have, at the Cochrane Legion, office rooms we have meeting rooms, we have a main hall we can rent for birthdays, celebrations, business meetings. We have an overhead projector you can hook up a computer. We're very multi-functional now. We have a professional kitchen now. So we want to make sure we are available to our community."

Finally, the Legion is dependent upon volunteers to operate and hold their various fundraisers; they are always looking for people who would like to help. If you are interested, call the Cochrane Legion at 403-932-2011 or pop in for a visit at 114 Fifth Ave.
