It's Small Business Week.
And, the Cochrane & District Chamber of Commerce is recognizing the importance of all of the small businesses in our community.
President, Kelly Sinclair says "We actually hosted an event to bring together, sort of a kick-off of Small Business Week. So we wanted to have an opportunity for some of our members and non-members, anyone in the business community to come together and network a little bit and hear about what the Chamber does, and how we support small businesses."
The event gave small business owners a chance to promote themselves and also an opportunity to network with other business owners.
These are challenging times between the decline in oil prices, the rise in unemployment and the global pandemic, which is why supporting local is more important than ever right now.
Sinclair says "The Chamber always encourages shopping locally, that is a huge part of our mandate and part of our mission and what we believe in. We really do have an amazing variety and breadth of type of businesses here."
She says we're lucky to not have to leave town to get the products and services that we're looking for.
"You just have access to so many things within Cochrane. You hardly need to look elsewhere for very many things at all."
Sinclair says the Chamber is here to support small businesses in many different ways.
"So the Chamber here ultimately is supporting the small business community, and we do that in a number of ways. We have access and we provide access to our members to value-added services that give them extra benefits and also help them save money."
"We also have a group insurance program. Small businesses don't often have benefits for their employees. We have access to that for small businesses of any size."
The Chamber is also growing.
"We will be very soon posting a job position for a full-time Executive Director. So we will have a more present face within our community. Someone who can focus on really supporting the small businesses in a way that they deserve."
