Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary, just west of Cochrane, has hit a major milestone. The non-profit has spent the past ten years saving several wolves and wolfdogs. The Sanctuary has educated tens of thousands of visitors from all over the world and it is time to celebrate.

Alyx Harris, the manager of the Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary says it’s been amazing to watch the sanctuary grow over the years.

“It’s pretty surreal. I personally have been here at the sanctuary for about six and a half years and I’ve seen how much it's grown in such a short amount of time and all we've been able to do in that time. It’s very exciting to reach this milestone.”

She says they plan to celebrate with a big, two-day event on July 25 and 26. The Sanctuary will hold its weekend programming and activities with added, special events.

“Some things we have are goat yoga, we've got a wolfdog drawing class, we're gonna have a popup market with lots of awesome local vendors, we're going to have food trucks here. It's going to be just a total blast and we cannot wait to celebrate it.”

“We have a herd of goats here at the sanctuary, along with two wonderful livestock Guardian dogs that adore people. It's an opportunity to actually hang out with our goats and do some yoga with them so it will quite literally be a yoga class. A lot of people have been just dying to go hang out with our goats.”

Over the 18 months of the pandemic, the sanctuary continued to care for their wolfdog residents, hold educational programming, and open a brand new visitor centre.

“We have never really had anything like this so to have like a market and food trucks and hopefully a bunch of people out celebrating, Especially with COVID and all that kind of stuff settling down and being actually able to do this, it's gonna feel just really surreal.”

Tickets are available now for the various events and activities held over the two days.
