Now that the high school volleyball season has ended club sport volleyball has just begun.

The Cochrane Jaguars Volleyball tryouts are underway and girls U13 to U18 are gearing up to make the cut.

Kim Fiala, Cochrane Jaguars, Chairperson says they are different than the city clubs; the Jaguars try and keep everyone who tries out.

“We usually have an ‘A’ team and a ‘B’ team. So our stronger teams have more skilled players, probably a more competitive mindset as well and then we have a ‘B’ team. That way everyone can play.”

Tryouts run until December 11 and after that the teams practice until the Premier tournaments begin, starting at the end of January. The season ends with the National Tournaments in May at either Edmonton or Calgary.

The season runs from December to May and Fiala adds this gives the girls a chance to really fine tune their volleyball skills especially going from high school volleyball to club sport.

“You play a lot longer. You get to develop your skills a lot more. You kind of hone in on the one sport. If you just played high school volleyball, the season being shorter you probably would have to play multiple sports.”

About 130 players have registered for the tryouts and Fiala hopes to have 12 players on each team.

“We’re really starting to grow the club and it looks like it’s going to be a great year and hopefully get even better next year.”
