Kids under seventeen are invited to join the growing movement of 100 Kids Who Care Cochrane tomorrow evening (September 7).

The Cochrane chapter has just over 50 kids signed up and is always looking for more like minded youth to join.

This will be the fourth meeting for the group which cross promotes with 100 Women Who Care and 100 Men Who Give a Damn. The kids so far have donated gifts to the Activettes Share Your Christmas Campaign, Cochrane and Area Humane Society, as well as volunteered for the Helping Hands Food Drive. While many parents also help to chip in, the idea is to let youth have a voice by deciding what and whom should benefit from their charitable act.

Co-organizer Lori Toma, says they would love to see the chapter really take off and become a very visible group in town. "We understand that young families have very busy schedules and so the time commitment is quite small but we really want to see the group grow in numbers and become a really huge presence in our community. We want to be talked about at dinner tables and conversations of how they can be involved. I think the name really speaks for itself 100 Kids Who Care, that is what we want the community to recognize us as, one hundred plus kids helping out in their community and giving to local charities."

The Cochrane chapter offers two components, either through the gift of time or monetary donation. "We felt it was important for the youth to not only come together and realize the benefit of donating a little bit of money collectively but also teach them the value of helping your community out through donating your time on the ground level through certain events such as the local food drive and spring garbage clean up, opportunities for the kids to actually see what they can do together as a group to benefit their community."

The spring food drive saw more than 30 youth plus parents volunteer at the bi- annual food drive where as a group they tackled the community of Heritage Hills which they will take on again on September 16.

Tomorrow's meeting will be one of monetary giving which can be as little as $10 with the youth voting as to where they would like the funds to go.

Partnering with Three Beasts Indoor Playground and Pats Palate Pleasers organizers feel blessed to have great community support. Tomorrow evening's meeting begins at 7 pm and will include snacks as well as an opportunity to play (remember socks) at the centre.

No need to register, bring your youth and help create a positive youth led movement across Cochrane. For more information go here.
