Kindergarten registration is now open for the 2020 - 2021 school year, and effective this year there are new eligibility requirements.

Rocky View Schools Superintendent Greg Luterbach says that the newly implemented standardized age will bring consistency throughout the province.

He says "There were certain guidelines with the old system but also some flexibility on the age for the cutoff to enter kindergarten. The province has now changed that, they want all school divisions across the province to have the same range for kindergarten entry."

The new standardized age of entry complies with Alberta's new Education Act and subsequent Early Childhood Services Regulations. Luterbach says "Students who were born between January 1 and December 31 of 2015 will be allowed to enter kindergarten for the 2020 -2021 school year."

Registration is ongoing, but Luterbach says the sooner it's done, the more helpful it is to plan for the upcoming year.
