It sure has been a treat to catch the hot rods, muscle cars and custom cars and trucks cruising through Cochrane over the past few months.
Cruise Cochrane kicked off their first ride of the spring with "The Corona COVID Cruise" - in support of local Cochrane businesses.
On May 16, they brought smiles to the faces of Cochrane seniors in their largest cruise. The event saw over 200 vehicles of all makes and models tour to all four of the major senior care centres in the community to spread some cheer and hope during the peak of the pandemic.
Their latest fundraiser "Cruz-4-Her" was a huge success and raised over $6,000 for the Big Hill Haven women's shelter.
Cruise Cochrane is now gearing up for their last cruise of the summer, and this time they'll be sticking close to home.
"The Old Fashioned - Small Town Cruising" event is taking place this Saturday, August 29.
Organizer Jim Messner says that its a chance for car enthusiasts to turn up your favourite car tunes, get geared up and get ready to rumble. He says The Small Town Cruise will be riding through Cochrane for about an hour.
All car enthusiasts are welcome and invited to meet up with the rest of the cruisers at Cochrane Town Square located at 320 - 5th Avenue. Staging will take place in the parking lot at 1 pm. There's a COVID compliant mini car show happening at 1:30.
Drivers are asked to bring a lawn chair, their favourite tunes and rags and can shine and wax-up their rides. Messner says that the cruise will start at 2:30 sharp and return to the starting point by 3:30 for closing announcements and door prizes.
The variety of vehicles that come out for the cruises are mind-boggling. You can expect to see Japanese, European, muscle cars, hot rods, wrap-arounds, classics ... and the list goes on.
Messner says that the cruisers flock to our area from all over the place. As well as participants from Cochrane, past cruisers come from the Calgary area and have even travelled from Lethbridge, Olds, and Strathmore.
Cruisers are asked to bring a copy of the cruising map for the event. You can find the cruise route below.
