There are less than 10 days left until the kick off to the 2020 Alberta Winter Games in Airdrie.

The games run from February 14th to 17th in 15 venues across Airdrie and nearby communities.

While the games are fast approaching there is a last minute call for volunteers.

There are around 850 people already signed up to help out, but Michelle Carre with the games says they are hoping for a few extra helping hands.

“If we got to about 900, that would be pretty darn good,” she said. “We need people who can actually be there the weekend of the games to be there.”

There are plenty of positions still available and the time commitment would only be a few hours over the family day long weekend.

“We could always use a few more hands on deck. Some of our schools which are our athlete villages where our athletes will be staying could use a couple of extra volunteers to help out with the shifts.” Carre adds the athlete village volunteers are required to be over 18, but there are other opportunities for youth as well.

“We need lots of folks at the food centre to make sure all of those meals run smoothly. And the opening ceremonies, which will be a fantastic event for our city, but we could definitely use some extra help to make sure it runs perfectly and smoothly.”

All volunteers need to be registered and confirmed before February 10th so anyone wanting to help out is encouraged to register ASAP.
