Nineteen local athletes from the Cochrane and Water Valley dojangs competed at the International Taekwondo Federation's national championships in Regina, Sasketchewan this past weekend.

Approximately 400 athletes from across Canada competed in this year's ITF Championship and the competitors from Trinity Taekwon-Do won medals in patterns, sparring and board breaking competitions.

Cameron Macdonald runs the program at Trinity and says he's extremely proud of their broad range of athletes and their accomplishments this year.

"The regular belt system starts at white belt and goes all the way to black belt. We had all ages at the Nationals. Our youngest competitors being four years old and we had adults competing as well."

Macdonald says Trinity brought home 8 Gold, 7 Silver, 5 Bronze and 4 ITF KIDS participation medals.

"This was one of our best tournaments in terms of gold medals won at a large scale event; such as Nationals. Our next competition will be our local in-house style tournament in February with many more larger tournaments to follow in 2020."

Macdonald says this tournament especially stood out for him since his own children were competing with him.
