Six Cochrane schools are currently listed on the Alberta Health Services (AHS) COVID-19 School Status Map under 'Alert Status.'

On Tuesday, the Alberta government implemented some changes in reporting active school cases. One change that has taken place is the criteria surrounding 'Alert' versus 'Outbreak' status.

According to provincial leaders, an Outbreak is now classified as 10 or more cases and a school will be placed under an Alert status when between two and nine cases have been identified.

At this point, there aren't any Cochrane schools that meet the Outbreak criteria.

Bow Valley High School, Cochrane High School, Elizabeth Barrett Elementary School and Manachaban Middle School are all reporting between 2-4 cases, while RancheView School and the Cochrane Christian Academy are reporting between 5-9 cases.

As of this week, school divisions across the province have amped up COVID-19 safety protocols, as directed by the provincial government.

Rocky View Schools is in the process of finalizing details surrounding proof of vaccination for staff, volunteers, contractors, and visitors entering an RVS school or site, and a timeline has yet to be established.

In terms of the local case count, Cochrane is currently sitting at 112 active cases and Rocky View County is reporting 142.
