A beloved community restaurant is helping a local woman in her fight against Multiple Sclerosis.

Mehtab East Indian Cuisine will hold a fundraiser on Sep. 7, for Shelly Irmen, a mother of two who is seeking MS treatment outside of Canada.

Jag Thind, Mehtab East Indian Cuisine Owner, says when he found out about Irmen's journey, he wanted to help.

"We've known her since we bought this restaurant here, and she used to come here all the time," he says. "I knew there was some problems she was having, because she was shivering all the time, but we never asked because it was a personal thing. But we got to know why a few weeks ago on Facebook, and I realized it was something serious and she needed money for treatment."

Irmen is planning to travel for life saving treatment not available in Canada for MS, many of the details are still being worked out, but the trip and treatment is estimated to cost at least $40,000.

Thind says hosting a fundraiser for the long time customer is the least he can do.

"We are here because of the community, because the people who come here love us a lot, and it's our time to give back. Whenever we can do something, any fundraiser, silent auction, whatever we can provide, we're always there."

Tickets for the fundraiser include dinner, dessert, and a non alcoholic drink, a silent auction will also be held.
