A Cochrane senior is recovering after being assaulted on a Swift Mînî Thnî Transit bus.

The man was the bus driver and was allegedly attacked after requesting bus fare from the passenger.

Cpl. Troy Savinkoff, RCMP media relations officer said Stoney Nakoda RCMP got a call from Stoney Nakoda Security after the attack on Aug. 11.

"One of the bus drivers of the Swift bus was assaulted by an individual just outside of the administration building in Morley. Officers arrived and they were able to locate the suspect who was on foot and ultimately arrest him."

The altercation occurred over bus payment.

"The incident does appear to have occurred initially over ticketing in order to enter the bus."

The victim is a 73-year-old-man who is recovering from his injuries, said Savinkoff.

"Fairly vicious assault and fortunately he is on the road to recovery."

Thirty-three-year-old Clarke George Labelle, of Mînî Thnî is facing multiple charges including assault causing bodily harm, uttering threats and resisting arrest.

He was remanded into custody and will appear in Cochrane Provincial Court on Aug. 29.
