Volunteers continue to sort the nonperishable items collected on June 27 during the latest mini food bank drive spearheaded by Helping Hands of Cochrane and Area.

Seventy volunteers went door-to-door in the West Valley, West Terrace, West Pointe, Bow Meadows, Bow Ridge and Jumping Pound neighbourhoods to accept the donation of nonperishable food and essential supplies.

Acting executive director Jackie Shier estimates they will be at least 250 chock-full boxes making their way to the Cochrane Activettes Food Bank.

"It went fabulous. The community was very generous," says Shier. "We're spending Monday and Tuesday sporting all the donations, and it looks like we have quite a number of cases to stock the food bank."

"The food bank is happy to have their shelves all good to go for the whole summer. We thank everyone for that, and hopefully, some of those volunteers will want to come back and volunteer in the fall, when we run our next four food drives."

The next one is Aug. 29 in the Riverview, Glenbow, Sunterra, and Cochrane Heights neighbourhoods.

That will be followed by on in Sunset Ridge on Sept. 12, Heritage Hills and Heartland on Sept. 26 and the last one in Riversong, Willows, Fireside & Monterra on Oct. 12.
