Cochrane's Minor Female Hockey Program is in full swing, and the numbers are looking better than the program had anticipated.

The program offers girls only hockey for Timbit to Midget divisions, some of which in the past have been strictly co-ed.

Lorne Bremner, Coach for Peewee Female Minor Hockey says the organization was taken aback by the numbers of girls playing Atom and Novice female only hockey this year.

"We're full all the way across the board," he says. "We were a little light in Atom, so we're going to move a couple of girls from Novice because we were heavy there. All the teams are full, in fact they turned some girls away from the team, they're still going to play Timbits, like initiations, but the others were full."

Bremner says it's an exciting time of year for the organization, as the first official on ice practice for the Novice and Atom girls was on Sunday.

"The girls are on the ice with their coaching staff and just starting to learn the game"

He shares the new Alberta Female Junior Hockey League team in Cochrane, the Calgary Chaos, has been working well with the Minor Female Hockey Program.

Bremner invites all Cochranites to come check out Cochrane's female hockey games this year.

"Bring your kids out, we're doing bring a friend again in February, and Girl's Hockey Day in April, come on out and watch. Check out the Chaos games, it'd be great to keep that junior team here as kind of a mentorship program for our girls, so we want to support them as much as we can."
