This year's ongoing drought issues have put farmer's and ranchers under a lot of stress.

Alberta’s official opposition is calling for the province to help provide producers by setting up mental health resources similar to other provinces.

NDP Agriculture Critic Heather Sweet took to twitter saying "It's time for Alberta to have a dedicated help line for mental health supports for Agriculture. Saskatchewan and Manitoba have it why don't we?"

Alberta does have a free mental health help line available, but nothing with a specific or direct focus around the issue of agriculture.

NDP Leader Rachel Notley says this drought has taken a toll on Albertans, none more so, than the farmers and ranchers working hard in our agriculture industry.

"No one should struggle in silence, so that's why our party is calling for more mental health supports for farmers."

Sweet posted on Twitter that with Alberta producers and ranchers facing an incredibly challenging year, supporting mental health is always important.

"It is clear that this year’s challenges warrant more, and quicker action."

Notley says this drought has taken a toll on Albertans, none more so than the farmers and ranchers working hard in our agriculture industry.

The Rural Municipalities of Alberta passed a resolution in 2019 to lobby the Province and called on Government to create a mental health hotline.
