Sports4Life Cochrane officials are fired up for the opening of registration this Wednesday (May 17) at 8 a.m. for its June 11 free try-it day at the SLS Centre.

"Thanks to SLS Centre, we are able to offer hundreds and hundreds of opportunities for kids between the ages of 6 and 18 to come out and try up to three activities throughout the day on June 11," says Ashley Fox, Sport4Life board member.

Last year's smaller-scale event gave almost 300 children a chance to try a variety of activities.

"The activities this year are off the charts. I think that the children are going to have trouble deciding."

Indoor and sitting volleyball, jujitsu, scuba diving, basketball, dance, rugby, pickleball, ringette, climbing, adventure running, and soccer are just a few of the options available.

"We wanted to make sure that our friends with either some physical mobility needs or some sensory needs also have an opportunity to participate, so we will have wheelchair sports and a sensory play space. As well,  the therapy pool will be open and we'll have an inclusive swim session that's offered for our friends that may find that to be a more safe and comfortable environment."

The hope is to give all children the opportunity to try something new, or perhaps an activity that they've been thinking about getting involved with, but haven't been able to fit into their schedule.

"They get to come out to meet the team, coaches, and staff that are a part of those organizations. And really, we believe that that's how the best sport and physical activity community will be built."

Interested people can find more details and register on the websites of either Sport4Life Cochrane or the SLS Centre.
