The teen from Morley who shot a tourist who was here visiting from Germany in 2018 has been sentenced.

The 18-year-old, who was 16 at the time and cannot be named, was handed a 14 month sentence, seven months of supervision and 15 months probation.

The sentence was handed down in a Calgary courtroom earlier today after he was convicted of aggravated assault last year.

The teen received the maximum sentence for a youth, which adds up to three years.

The time he has already spent behind bars means he won't be spending any more time in jail and will be released today.

Horst Stewin had eight bullet fragments removed from his brain and is now paralyzed on his right side.

He gets confused and has memory issues due to the shooting which occured just west of the Chief Goodstoney Rodeo Centre on August 2, 2018.

Several other charges, including attempted murder, were dropped earlier.
