A name change and rebranding are in the works for the Spray Lake Sawmills Family Sports Centre.

During an in-camera session last week, Rocky View County (RVC) council gave their blessings for the new name and agreed not to disclose it until it is formally announced.

Mayor Jeff Genung says the town is aware of the proposed new name, and that council won't be formally discussing the proposal until the New Year.

The town's major recreational hub and the Cochrane Arena are operated by the nonprofit Spray Lake Sawmills Recreation Park Society which is jointly owned by the town and county. It was created to manage the Cochrane Arena and the original Totem One arena in 2001. It now boosts 350,000 square feet of indoor recreation and leisure space with over 15,000 weekly users

Centre officials are not in a position to respond as of yet.
