The next time you fly out of the Calgary airport you will notice some changes.

On October 31, the new YYC terminal is opening up a new gateway for USA and International travelers.

An increased number of international jet setters has created a high demand for the new addition. Construction of the two-million square foot facility began in 2011, and is part of a larger program which includes the addition of a new runway.  It adds 24 new gates to the airport and is equivalent to 34 football fields in size. The facility will include self-serve check-in kiosks and bag drop offs to help streamline the process.

The changes may add some confusion, at first, but Henri Stevens, Calgary Airport, Director of Corporate Communications, says the airport has many implements in place to make the transition smoother.

“We have curbside ambassadors who will be on the curb to help people who are arriving, drop people off ,and to guide people into the terminal building. Inside we've got customer service care ambassadors.  More than 100 folks in their red jackets in certain locations and information desks and at places where we have new technology.”

While everyone adjusts to the new terminal jet setters/ travelers are asked to arrive earlier and to be aware of the changes as you park.

“For anybody who is looking to park and catch an international flight best option there is to follow the signs to what is our P2 parkade as opposed to P1. The P1 parkade is in close proximity to the existing terminal which will transition on October 31 to continue to handle domestic flights to other points in Canada but the P2 parkade will be for those hoping to catch a flight to US and international destinations.”

With 50 new shops and restaurants to satisfy anyone's last minute needs before hopping on board, the new wing will bring a whole new experience to your travels as you exit Canada.
