After a long two years of fundraising and grant applications, Cochrane's Holy Spirit School will see a new playground.

Having raised just over $200,000 the Holy Spirit Community Playground Committee is ready to get rid of the old and bring in the new.

Lucy Lovelock, member of the Playground Committee, says the playground will have feature two key elements: accessibility and environmental conservation.

"Two and half years ago, we had some parents come to student council and say that our playground was the least accessible in Cochrane."

While they don't have any students in wheelchairs or with mobility issues currently, long term planning was key.

Lovelock shares besides using recycled Alberta tires as a rubber base, the structure is all about environmental awareness.

"The actual structure itself is about 650,000 milk jugs that have been diverted from the landfill to go into our playground."

The committee values local workmanship as well; the structure is coming from a BC company called Green Roots Play Equipment Inc, who will also oversee volunteers build the new structure. Cochrane's, Ongoing Works, will handle demolition and site preparation.

Now that fundraising has been met, the next focus and push is to find volunteers.

"In this economy we know that not everyone can give money but if they have a little bit of time, if they can come help with the build that would be fantastic."

Lovelock says they are looking for 4 people per day to help build doing 12 hour shifts (or 6 hour shifts if enough volunteers),  2 general volunteers to assist where needed, and volunteers to provide supper and lunch per day.

The anticipated start day is Monday August 29 if shipping is not delayed.

"We are going for a 5 day install, it shouldn't take that long, it should take 2 maybe 3."
