The Canada Border Services Agency is reminding the public that travel restrictions continue to be in place.

With the loosening of some COVID-19 restrictions this week, many Albertans are looking forward to having some more freedom this weekend.

The May long weekend is typically one of the busiest times of the year for travel and the unofficial kickstart to the summer.

Although Alberta's top doctor has given the okay for Albertans to travel to cottages and summer homes within the province, the border remains closed for recreational travel at this time.

On March 21, both the Canadian and U.S governments closed the border for any non-essential travel.

The Canada Border Services Agency is reminding the public that those restrictions are still in place and say that anyone looking to cross the border for tourism or recreation at this time will be turned away.
