Dr. Deena Hinshaw provided a live COVID-19 update for Thursday, May 6.

There were 2,211 new cases of COVID-19 reported in the past 24 hours with 19,900 tests performed and a positivity rate of 11.1 per cent.

Hospitalizations saw a drop of 12 for a total of 654. ICU patients remain at 146.

Fortunately, there were no new deaths reported today and the total remains at 2,102.

Cochrane added another eight cases for a total of 211 and Rocky View County added 31 for a total of 283 active COVID-19 cases.

To date, more than 1.73 million doses of the COVID-19 vaccine have been administered.

More than 100,000 Albertans who became eligible today, booked an appointment to be immunized.

As of Monday, millions of Albertans, those 12 years of age and older, will become eligible to book a COVID vaccine appointment.

Dr. Hinshaw says, "I am also asking for your patience. Come Monday, there will be more than 3.8 million people now eligible.

AHS and pharmacies are working diligently to schedule everyone, but it will take some time to get all first doses booked.

If you don’t get through right away, or can’t find an appointment immediately, please try again a few hours or a few days later.

Also, if you book more than one appointment, please immediately cancel the ones you do not intend to use."
