A scary sight for Cochranites today as a large plume of smoke could be seen across much of town.

Cochrane Fire Inspector Jeff Avery says they were called out Saturday afternoon to a fully involved garage fire on West Aarsby Road.

He says "The fire did extend into the house and cause significant damage."

"It looks like the garage is a total write-off, and there was three motorcycles and two vehicles in the garage as well that are a complete loss."

There was no one in the home at the time, but there was one man in the garage and he was able to get out safely.

Avery says crews were able to stop the fire before it spread to any neighbouring homes.

All neighbours evacuated safely and no one was injured.

They'll begin their investigation tomorrow.
