An incredible opportunity is once again open for two young women with horsemanship skills to represent Cochrane.

Nominations are open until the end of July for a Queen and Princess to be selected to represent the Cochrane Lions Rodeo.

Susan Black, member of Rodeo Royalty Committee and Event Coordinator, says they are looking for ladies 18-24 years of age to put their name forward. Besides looking for women who are passionate about Cochrane and the Lions Club, the ladies need to know how to ride. "What we look for is you need to be able to ride and be a confident rider because we do probably 50 to 60 events throughout the year and roughly 15 of those are under saddle."

A sunny disposition and love of the public are also features the committee looks for on top of horsemanship skills. Being an ambassador for the Lions and Cochrane also comes with benefits for those selected. "There is a real opportunity for a young woman to grow. We see them growing in confidence, in social skills and abilities, making good sound judgments and decisions because they have to think quickly on their feet, and they make life long connections."

Many former crowned Queens and Princesses move on to compete at other rodeo competitions including Miss Rodeo Canada.

If you are interested in putting your name forth you can do so here or by emailing susan.m.black@shaw.ca for an application.

The Queen and Princess are awarded a saddle, buckle, and if sponsorship comes through, custom made hats, serapis, and boots.

Crowning occurs on the final day of the Lions Rodeo, September 4.
