In an already saddened and shaken COVID 19 world, another indescribable tragedy has rocked Canada with the mass shooting in Nova Scotia. It is the largest mass shooting in Canadian history and has taken the lives of 19 people. One of the victims was 23 year veteran RCMP officer Constable Heidi Stevenson who lost her life in the line of duty.

Although the RCMP family is 20,000 strong, it is still a close family. Corporal Troy Savinkoff says all RCMP officers share a common ground. "We all train in Depot at different times and most people, anytime there is a tragedy, have either worked with or trained with people, there are always links within our community. Already there have been a lot of internal tributes on our social media sites that we speak to each other on with regards to the tragedy and the horrible thing that happened. People that have worked with and knew Heidi are talking about her and her smile and the kind of mom and woman that she was. Certainly, that's happening a great deal today and yesterday.

Once again the COVID 19 pandemic will alter the way things are done with regards to services and tributes for the victims of the tragedy. Already, the outpouring of condolences has taken to the virtual world. Here in Cochrane, the flag flies at half-mast with several bouquets of flowers placed at the base.
