While much of the world is worried about coronavirus, Alberta Health Services (AHS) wants Albertans to be on high-alert for influenza.

Weekly data was just released by AHS and lab-confirmed cases of influenza have caused two more deaths in Alberta, pushing the total to 25 confirmed deaths.

One death this week took place in the Edmonton Zone while the other was in the South Zone.

Cochrane is considered to be part of the Calgary Zone, and flu-related deaths have remained at four for this season.

Hospitalizations due to lab-confirmed influenza have now surpassed 1000 cases in Alberta. Calgary currently has 400 patients in care, which has increased by over 40 cases from last week. The majority of hospitalizations continue to be in the Edmonton zone and currently sits at 422 patients.

Alberta Health Services stresses that prevention is your protection this flu season and you can see all the information on influenza immunization and prevention here.
