The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating an officer-involved shooting in Cochrane.

Cochrane RCMP were called out to a residence in West Valley on West Gissing Road shortly after 7:00 p.m. last night because of concerns about the well-being of a man and his partner.

It was believed that the man had numerous firearms.

When officers arrived the man barricaded himself into the home and did not cooperate with officers.

A negotiator from the Emergency Response Team was not able to convince the man to leave the home in a peaceful manner.

There were alternate means to try to force the man out of the house and eventually the man did exit the residence.

Early Saturday morning, a confrontation occurred and a member from the Emergency Response Team discharged a service weapon which injured the man.

He was transported to hospital but was declared deceased while enroute.

No officers or civilians were injured or directly involved in the confrontation.

Both the RCMP and ASIRT are investigating this incident.
