No matter the impact on the next winter games, Olympian Tristan Walker says the top priority must be to ensure summer Olympics athletes get a chance to compete.

The Cochrane Olympic luge silver medallist says postponing the Japan Summer Olympics to 2021 was the right decision.

"No matter how it affects the winter athletes, if there's a chance to get the summer guys their games, then that is absolutely the right call to not to have more spread of the coronavirus," says Walker.

Yesterday, the 2020 Japan Summer Olympics were postponed and are expected to be held next summer instead.

Canada pulled out on Mar. 22.

Walker is currently on his annual break to recharge. The luge season ended before the global spread of COVID-19.

The next Winter Olympics are scheduled to be held in China in 2022
