In the early morning hours of November 9, Cochrane RCMP responded to a vehicle versus pedestrian collision.

RCMP say they were alerted to the incident just after midnight at the intersection of the Trans Canada Highway and Highway 22.

RCMP Corporal Troy Savinkoff says the driver of the vehicle reported a man had been struck.

"We attended and located a male that been pronounced deceased by EMS and we had the highway itself shut down eastbound for about 5 hours while our collision investigative team looked into the dynamics of the collision."

Cpl. Savinkoff says the investigation as to how/why the collision occurred or where the pedestrian was headed, is ongoing. The male victim has been identified but identity will not be released until next of kin has been notified.

Alcohol has been ruled out involving the driver of the motor vehicle.
