On Thursday, January 5 after serving two-thirds of a 15-year sentence for a series of stranger sexual assaults, 43-year-old Shaun Gerard Desruisseaux was released to the Calgary community on Statutory Release.

Upon his release, the Calgary Police Service issued a warning to the public, in the interest of public safety.

According to police, Desruisseaux committed his crimes between 2008 to 2011 in southern Alberta and Saskatchewan and targeted women, as well as a teenager, that were unknown to him. He is currently subject to Statutory Release conditions and will be supervised by Correctional Services Canada (CSC).

He is described as 5’11” tall, 235 pounds with hazel eyes and brown hair.

"Members of the public are advised that the intent of the process is to enable members of the public to take suitable precautionary measures and not to embark on any form of vigilante action," a police release stated.
