Cochranites woke up to another hazy day, as smoke from wildfires in British Columbia and Saskatchewan continue to blow across Alberta.

On Sunday, the Air Quality Health Index in Cochrane registered at 10 on the scale and has since dropped to a 7 which is still considered to be high risk.

Environment Canada is forecasting "very high" air quality values to persist for the next few days, and a special Air Quality Statement remains in place for the majority of the province.

The smoke has significantly reduced visibility throughout the Town of Cochrane and residents with underlying health concerns or respiratory issues are being cautioned.

Weather experts says that the Air Quality can "fluctuate over short distances and can vary considerably hour by hour."

They warn that individuals may experience prolonged coughing, throat irritation, headaches and shortness of breath. Seniors, children and those with cardiovascular or lung disease are especially at risk.
