A lot of people will be heading out this August Long Weekend and the provincial parks will be open to any and all visitors.

While camping may need to be reserved in advance, the parks will still be available for those who are looking to go hiking or picnicking for the day.

"Our reserved parks are largely full but if campers are looking for last minute reservations, they can go on the website and look at our vacancy calendar," said Tim Chamberlin, spokesperson for Alberta Environment and Parks.

If you are heading out to go camping this long weekend, keep in mind that it is important to pick up after yourself when you leave.

"This is just a courtesy, good neighbor policy so that when the next camper comes in, they have a clean site and they can do their set up without having to worry about picking up other peoples' garbage."

While there are no fire bans for the weekend, it is crucial to ensure your fires are completely out before leaving the camp site unattended by using the soaking, stirring, and soaking again technique.

There are some trail closures due to heightened bear activity, specifically within the Kananaskis region, although Chamberlin said if you brush up on your bear safety techniques, you should be okay.

"Kananaskis country we've had quite a bit of bear activity so we urge people to be up to speed on their bear smart techniques and just be mindful of any closures or any advisories that may be specific to the areas that they may be frequenting."
