Rocky View County has scheduled the public hearing for the proposed Lehigh Hanson’s open-pit gravel operation on the Scott property, commonly referred to as the Scott Pit.

The hearing is set for Dec. 22, just three days before Christmas, and that has left a bad taste in the mouth of the organization Rocky View Gravel Watch.

"Even by Rocky View County’s standards, this is a truly extraordinary Christmas present in all the wrong ways, from both the county and Lehigh Hanson," the lobby group states in an email to its followers. "The timing of this hearing appears to be yet another attempt to wear down opposition to Lehigh’s third attempt at establishing an open-pit gravel mine in one of the county’s most densely populated residential neighbourhoods."

Written submissions for the public hearing are due by Dec. 9 and should be addressed to the Municipal Clerk with the subject line Bylaw C-8082-2020 and emailed to is legislativeservices@rockyview.ca.
