Crop yields seem to be up this year but the rainy weather is making for a difficult harvest.

Crop Specialist with Alberta Agriculture, Mark Cutts, said most farmers are much further behind on their harvest than last year. According to the most recent crop report in central Alberta, most producers have completed 11-12 per cent, while the five year average for this time of the year is about 25 per cent.

"We've seen some rain seemingly on a fairly regular basis and that has slowed down harvest," Cutts said, adding that with the nice weather over the weekend, progress will have increased.

As for crop yields, Cutts said so far, they are around 10 per cent higher than the average.

"The quantity of the crop harvested will certainly be quite good for most producers, but with the weather the way it's been, the quality of the crop... we'll have to see how that comes in."

Farmers are continuing their harvest and hoping for some dry weather to finish off the season.
