To the relief of residents and visitors, the redevelopment of the Ramada Cochrane,10 West Side Dr., is now underway.

Crews have now been onsite to complete the groundwork for the project for the past few weeks after receiving approval from the town.

"We are excited to add a few additional rooms and hope to be open in the late summer of 2023," says Ryan Semchuk, marketing manager for the Canalta Family of Companies.

Semchuk says the reconstructed hotel will have 90 rooms, up from 72. It will continue to have the same amenities as before, including a pool.

The foundation of the pool building was the only major feature of the hotel that remained standing after the Feb. 6 blaze.

The hotel was originally constructed in 2001 and renovated in 2018.

Its destruction has left Cochrane short of visitor accommodation.

In the spring, Burnswest Properties says a hotel and grocery store will both be part of the new Greystone development currently underway but has not provided any further details since.
