COVID-19 numbers continue to rise at an alarming rate in Alberta.

Since Friday, another 4,740 new cases of the virus have been reported in Alberta.

Friday saw 1,659, Saturday 1,497 and Sunday 1,584 new cases.

There are 117 more patients being treated in the hospital making for a total of 803.

The ICU admissions increased by 29 since Friday for a total of 198. Of those cases, 90.4 per cent are unvaccinated or partially vaccinated. 

Another 18 deaths have been reported bringing the total deaths in the province to 2,462.

There are now 18,395 active cases of COVID-19 in Alberta with a positivity rate of 12 per cent.

There is a slight rise in vaccination rates with 79.2 per cent of Albertans now partially immunized and 71.2 per cent fully immunized with two shots.

Cochrane has jumped to 100 active cases while Rocky View County now has 139 active COVID-19 cases.

It was announced today (Monday, September 13) that nine post-secondary institutions in the province will forego rapid testing and will mandate proof of vaccination to attend on-campus classes.

The University of Calgary, SAIT, Mount Royal University, University of Alberta, MacEwan University, NAIT, Norquest College, University of Lethbridge, and Medicine Hat College will mandate vaccinations for students.
