Cochrane RCMP is investigating a suspicious house fire on Nov. 25 just off the Branch Rd. in the Stoney Nakoda Nation.

The abandoned house was fully engulfed in flames when a crew from the Exshaw Fire Dept. arrived on the scene.

"They were able to put out the fire without any damage to the local residences, but the house itself was a total loss," says RCMP Cpl. Troy Savinkoff.

A subsequent fire investigation revealed the fire to be suspicious and the RCMP have launched an investigation.

There have been other abandoned houses suspiciously torched in the Stoney Nakoda Nation.

"A lot of these homes are still structural sound, and the Nation will come in after the fact and make it habitable for people."

"It's unfortunate because there are people in need of homes out there, and now this one can't go to anybody."

Savinkoff says the RCMP is seeking the public's assistance for any information related to this crime.
