It has been confirmed by Alberta Fish and Wildlife that two recent fatal animal attacks are from different grizzly bears.

The first attack occurred on May 4, near Waiparous Creek. The most recent was southwest of Water Valley.

Paul Frame, a bear specialist has confirmed it was separate animals via a DNA analysis. He believes both attacks are linked to mothers with cubs.

Frame says that studies show not only a rise in the grizzly population but also that encounters among humans and bears are more likely.

Anyone planning on spending time in areas with bear activity is encouraged to be prepared for any encounter.
